A group of Iranian Sunni scholars accompanied Hojat-ol-Islam Hamid Shahriari in the meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.  

Speaker of the Malaysian Parliament Johari bin Abdul welcomed the Iranian delegation and hailed the joint presence of Shia and Sunni scholars from Iran in Malaysia.

This presence can present a clear image of the peaceful coexistence of Shias and Sunnis in the Islamic Republic of Iran to the people of Malaysia and the world, he stated.

He went on to provide a report on Malaysia’s governing structure and political system.

Hojat-ol-Islam Shahriari, for his part, introduced the WFPIST, explaining the history of its establishment and its objectives.

He expressed appreciation for the active participation of Malaysian institutions and organizations in the Conference on the Unity of the Islamic Ummah and Palestine that was held by the WFPIST in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

The Iranian Sunni scholars attending the meeting, referred to the favorable situation of Sunnis in the Islamic Republic of Iran, noting that Sunnis in the country have about 18,000 mosques and 600 religious schools, figures that indicate a significant increase in Sunni religious activities since the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

They emphasized that Sunni Friday prayer leaders and preachers in Iran enjoy complete freedom to express their views and opinions, and there are no restrictions in this regard.

They also stressed the special attention of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution to Sunni affairs and called on Malaysian officials not to heed the negative propaganda and media campaigns of the enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

At the end of the meeting, a Taqrib (Islamic proximity) plaque was presented as a memento to the speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives.
